'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' has taken $311.1 million (€198 million) worldwide on its' opening weekend.
According to Reuters, the film, which cost $186 million to make, took $151.1 (€95) million in the US and Canada, and $24 (€15) million in Britain.
In France, where ticket sales were boosted by hype surrounding the film's Cannes opening, it collected an impressive $14 (€9) million.
Rob Moore, president of worldwide marketing distribution and operations at Paramount, told Reuters that the totals were: "driven by people in their 30s and 40s, and that audience was excited to see the movie and bring their kids with them."
The opening weekend total easily surpasses director Steven Spielberg's previous record of $202 (€128) million for 2005's 'War of the Worlds'.
